Property Tax

The Garofalo property tax reduction plan - protecting the taxpayers of Dakota and Goodhue counties

Representative Garofalo has supported policies which require government to live within it's means. In addition he has voted for legislation which will grow private sector jobs by keeping a lid on taxes.

Opposing property tax increases - Representative Garofalo worked with Governor Pawlenty, Republicans, and Democrats to defeat the transit taxing district property tax increase. This legislation would have forced area residents to pay higher taxes with no guarantee of facilities being constructed in our area.

Reform the Local Government Aid Formula - The current local government aid formula sends over $180 million dollars to Minneapolis, while Farmington, Lakeville and the surrounding townships receive $0 of this aid. Area citizens should not have their property taxes be higher because they live in the suburbs or rural Dakota/Goodhue county.

Stopped the mortgage tax increase - Representative Garofalo supported Governor Pawlenty's veto of a proposed tax increase which would have made it more expensive to purchase homes.

Reform government - Some state laws increase the cost of some city/county projects with outdated and unnecessary regulations. Representative Garofalo supports the elimination and reform of these outdated laws.
